Why Mobile Money is the right way to fund SMS in Uganda

Most Ugandan teams don't have a corporate credit card. The bursar, parish admin, SACCO loan officer or NGO field manager uses MTN MoMo or Airtel Money daily — and that's what Wesendall is built around.

  • No card, no bank visits, no SWIFT, no forex.

  • Credits land in your Wesendall wallet within seconds of approval.

  • Use the same MoMo line that funds the rest of the operation.

  • Automate top-ups via API for production workloads.

Step by step (it's three taps)

Anyone with MTN MoMo or Airtel Money can do this — no training required.

  • 1. Open Wesendall → Account balance → Deposit money.

  • 2. Enter your MTN or Airtel-registered phone number and the UGX amount.

  • 3. Approve the prompt that pops up on your phone with your Mobile Money PIN.

  • Wallet credits within seconds. Send your first batch of SMS.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay for bulk SMS with MTN Mobile Money in Uganda?

Yes. Wesendall accepts MTN Mobile Money top-ups directly. From the dashboard's Deposit page, enter your MTN MoMo phone number and the UGX amount; approve the prompt on your phone; the wallet credits within seconds.

Does it also work with Airtel Money?

Yes. The same flow works for Airtel Money. Choose your Airtel-registered phone number on the top-up form.

What's the minimum top-up amount?

UGX 500. There's no maximum aside from MTN/Airtel daily transaction limits on your line.

Is the Mobile Money fee paid by me or by Wesendall?

The MTN/Airtel collection fee is added to the amount you authorize on your phone, the same way it works for any MoMo Pay merchant. Wesendall credits the full top-up amount to your wallet.

Can I automate top-ups from my own backend?

Yes — the /api/v1/account/topup endpoint kicks off the same MoMo collection programmatically. Useful for low-balance auto-recharge in production systems. See /solutions/sms-api for the integration walkthrough.

What if the prompt doesn't arrive on my phone?

MTN and Airtel sometimes have delays during peak hours. Wait 60 seconds. If nothing arrives, dial *165# (MTN) or *185# (Airtel) and check your pending transactions. Wesendall doesn't deduct anything until you authorize on your phone.
